Beraldo, already on a yellow card, challenged Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the ball and sent the Marseille striker sliding off the pitch and into PSG coach Luis Enrique. The referee initially gave a free-kick without a second booking for the defender, but then reviewed the footage and came back with a straight red card.

Although the incident happened near the middle of the field, Beraldo was the last defender and Aubameyang had just knocked the ball into space before he was sent to the ground and towards the touchline. The officials deemed that Beraldo had denied a clear scoring opportunity and decided to send him off.
