Magpies manager Eddie Howe had expressed his concern over the stopper's condition right after the game as he said that the player could need surgery and would undergo further checks.
Now after the initial assessment, the goalkeeper has been ruled out of action for a considerable period and is not expected to return until the final weeks oft he season.
