According to The Sun, Cardiff boss Neil Warnock has jetted off to France in an attempt to persuade Nantes’ Emiliano Sala to make a switch to the Premier League this month, however the Argentine is apparently hoping for a bigger move – Spurs should capitalise on the striker’s uncertainty by swooping in.
What’s the word?
Well, The Sun reports that Warnock is pulling out all the stops to seal a deal for the prolific Sala in the coming days and will surely be hoping that the personal effort he has gone to will go a long way when the hitman makes his decision – the 28-year-old is expected to either decline or accept a move to Cardiff this weekend.
On paper, the Bluebirds look one of the weaker teams in the league and, having lost out to Bournemouth in the battle for Nathaniel Clyne’s signature earlier in the window, will be hoping that the coast is clear to their £20m target.
However, Spurs may be in the market for a new deputy to Harry Kane as they look to offload both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen this month and Mauricio Pochettino should do his utmost to spoil Warnock’s window by pipping the 70-year-old to Sala.
Sensational Sala
There is a very good reason as to why Cardiff are so keen on signing the target-man in the coming weeks, or 12 of them, to be exact – Sala has bagged an impressive 12 goals in 17 games with two assists to boot and is just one strike behind World Cup winner, Kylian Mbappe.
With Llorente being encouraged out of the White Hart Lane door, Spurs could soon be lacking a powerful back-up to star man Kane but Sala can easily be the 33-year-old’s replacement, if not an upgrade.
WhoScored lists the Nantes man’s finishing and headed attempts as strong, the latter of which is shared with the towering Llorente and, at 6-foot-2, Sala is also a physical presence to be reckoned with.
