Chelsea announced on Tuesday that goalkeeper Asmir Begovic had left to join Premier League rivals Bournemouth in a deal that is expected to cost the Cherries around £10m.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina stopper moved to Stamford Bridge from Stoke City in 2015 but he has made just 33 appearances in all competitions in two seasons with the Blues after failing to dislodge Thibaut Courtois as the club’s number one keeper.

The 29-year-old returns to south coast 10 years after he enjoyed a loan spell at Dean Court, and it is a transfer that should ensure Antonio Conte steps up his search for cover for Courtois in the coming weeks.

Chelsea supporters were quick to have their say on Begovic’s exit via social media, with some glad that he is gone and others wondering when the Premier League champions are going to start replacing all of the outgoing players.
