Arsenal came from a goal down to beat FC Cologne 3-1 in their opening Europa League group game on an interesting Thursday night at the Emirates, and Gunners fans chose to single out Theo Walcott for criticism despite the win.
Arsene Wenger handed the 28-year-old his first start of the season after the forward found himself on the substitutes’ bench for their opening four Premier League fixtures and the Community Shield against Chelsea, but he struggled to make an impression on the right in a three-pronged attack with Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.
The hosts trailed at the break thanks to Jhon Cordoba’s brilliant goal, but Sead Kolasinac, Alexis Sanchez and Hector Bellerin hit back in the second half to give the north London outfit the three points.
While Walcott picked up the assist for the latter and had a hand in the equaliser, he was also caught offside on a number of occasions.
Arsenal supporters were quick to have their say on the performance of the winger via social media, with some saying that he ‘gets worse every time he plays’ and others going as far saying he is one of the club’s ‘worst ever players’.
