Pep Guardiola's side were utterly cruising to victory but let their concentration slip and the daring Eagles capitalised late on
Manchester City have won so many trophies over the last few years that they have started to commit one of football's greatest sins – forgetting that matches last 90 minutes.
Pep Guardiola's side were at their dominant best for most of the game against Crystal Palace, monopolising possession and taking their chances to hold a 2-0 lead thanks to Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis, looking in cruise control in their last game before heading out to the Club World Cup.
But towards the end of the game they began to start thinking about what they would be packing for Saudi Arabia instead of seeing out the game and Jean-Philippe Mateta struck with Palace's first shot on target. The three points did not look in danger, however, until Palace broke in added time and were awarded a penalty when Phil Foden caught Mateta.
Michael Olise – who City wanted to sign last summer before eventually turning to Jeremy Doku – kept his cool, giving Palace a point they barely deserved and knocking the Christmas stuffing out of the treble winners.

Ederson (6/10):
Barely saw the ball until Mateta struck. Once again beaten with first shot on target he faced although there was little he could do about it, or Olise's spot-on equaliser.
Kyle Walker (5/10):
His passes were often under-cooked and switched off in the last 15 minutes when he needed to ensure City saw out the win.
Ruben Dias (5/10):
Looked powerful, solid and adventurous going forward. But didn't pick Mateta up when Palace broke and as culpable as anyone for the sudden collapse.
Nathan Ake (5/10):
Commanding and classy for most of the game but then lost composure and concentration.
Josko Gvardiol (6/10):
Contributed a lot to City's forward play and now looks as if he gets what his team want him to do. Not to blame for the two goals they conceded.

Bernardo Silva (7/10):
A class act and was the architect of City's total domination. He will be furious they threw it away.
Rodri (8/10):
Brilliant in every aspect of play, winning the key challenges and often looking a goal threat.
Rico Lewis (8/10):
His best performance for City and deservedly scored his first Premier League goal. It's desperately unfair on him that it will be remembered for their late collapse.

Phil Foden (7/10):
Was playing brilliantly and set up Grealish's goal but loses a mark for conceding the last-gasp penalty for fouling Mateta.
Julian Alvarez (5/10):
Has not seized on Haaland's absence at all. Unlucky to see his goal ruled out for offside against Rodri but overall not nearly good enough.
Jack Grealish (8/10):
Played superbly and scored his third goal in as many league games. Let down by his team-mates down the other end.

John Stones (N/A):
Replaced Lewis in the 95th minute.
Pep Guardiola (5/10):
Has to shoulder some blame for squandering the lead. Why didn't he make some substitutions and add some fresher legs to kill the game off?
