After Hansen fell unwell earlier this month, Liverpool confirmed rumours that had been circulating on social media about the 69-year-old's serious condition and need for hospital admission. After joining Liverpool in 1977, Hansen went on to appear in 620 games for the Anfield side, winning eight league titles, two FA Cups, three European Cups and three League Cups along the way. Following his retirement, he started a career as a commentator, rising to prominence on the BBC and Match of the Day. He eventually hung up his hat in 2014 following the World Cup final.
WHAT NEXT FOR HANSEN?
The Liverpool legend will likely continue his recovery at home. Earlier this week, his former Liverpool team-mate, Graeme Souness, revealed to talkSPORT that Hansen had been on the mend and was also able to make a few quips on Souness' behalf which could be taken as a positive sign.
